Sunflower Aquarelle
Unlike
last season we were a bit late sowing these sunflower seeds. Most of them
struggled through a bitsy summer but these two did extremely well. Pamela shows
how tall they grew and the ugly squinting fellow shows how large the seed heads
developed as shown also on the picture with the tape measure.
I
harvested them early in March and went on a holiday. When we came back they
hadn’t dried but had gone moldy instead. This added interest to the colour. But
while I was painting the aquarelle it went off at quite a rate and started to
smell rather ripe. I hoped to do an oil sketch as well but alas it is rotting
away in the bush now.
