Painting
Some years ago, at a time when I was
becoming temporarily disillusioned with photography, I started painting with
oils and tempera.
I saw an exhibition of Orientalism.
Prominent were a lot of paintings of Jean Léon Gérôme. That really struck a
chord. So do works of contemporary artists like Andrew Wyeth and Peter
Poskas.
It is not easy to find
the time and solitude to paint in a hurried world. I like to do it while listening to
classical music - and not the aggravating variety – being very relaxed and
absolutely without pressure from outside.
Thus it is that you won’t find piles of
completed canvases stacked against the wall. But who knows. I’m still working
on the big scheme.
