Sunflower Seed head Copper etching

Last year after I had an expo in Olonzac, a very friendly person gifted me a nice little stack of copper plates. It was not until a couple of months ago that I acquired some experience with what is known as Edinburgh etching mordant, a mixture of Ferric chloride and citric acid. So it was time to put the two together. A willing model was a sunflower, looking tired and raggedly after a summer in the garden and having survived a battering by seriously heavy hail earlier on.

The image size is 40 x 50 centimeters and it is printed on Somerset 250 grammes white. It is a variable edition of fifty prints and when ordering you could stipulate which way you would like it printed. Either like you see on the photos on this page or you could have the sanguine just as a line print, without plate colour showing. You can contact me via the contact page to discuss before placing an order.
